Yttrium is a common rare earth metal, it is one of very stable elements in the air and its composition property is similar to lanthanum. Among compounds of yttrium, yttrium oxide is the most important one, it has been used as phosphor or used to generate red color in color television sets.

用途：主要用作製造微波用磁性材料和軍工用重要材料（單晶；釔鐵柘榴石、釔鋁柘榴石等複合氧化物），也用作光學玻璃、陶瓷材料添加劑、大螢幕電視用高亮度 螢光粉和其他顯像管塗料。還用於製造薄膜電容器和特種耐火材料，以及高壓水銀燈、鐳射、儲存元件等的磁泡材料。燒結時添加氧化釔可有效降低鎢合金的晶粒 度。
